We've All Done It

Speeding through the neighborhood occurs all the time.  We are late for the meeting, for school, for the party, for the American Idol finale.  Do you ever think of what might happen to you, or to someone else injuried by the vehicle you were driving?

Especially now that we are in the Summer months, Taylor Oaks is filled with joggers, walkers, people socializing...

Are the 15 seconds gained by speeding through the neighborhood worth the risks?

No one wants to have an accident, especially you.

A traffic study was conducted by the City of Roswell on May 24th, 2006  for Taylor Oaks, to see if there was a proven speed issue. The results are eye-opening.  The speeds shown occur at the 85th percentile.  Don't forget about the 15% driving even faster.

Before you view the attachment below, please remember, 25 is the speed limit in the neighborhood.  This limit is not meant to encumber you, it's meant to protect you.

Please be careful.

Got Dog?

Have you ever been out mowing your lawn and stepped in "dog garbage"?  Or have you ever been walking along the street and notice a foul smell coming from the bottom of your shoe?

Taylor Oaks is a great neighborhood to take a brisk walk with Fido, but some people may be unware of the city rules involving cleanup of your pet:

Section 8.1.20 Removal of Excrement. It shall be unlawful for any person owning, possessing, harboring, or having care, charge, control or custody of a dog not to remove any excrement left by that dog on any sidewalk, gutter, street, lot, public park or other area traversed by the public. Dog waste shall be immediately removed from areas traversed by the public by placing said matter in a sealed container and thereafter disposing of it in a trash receptacle or refuse container. In areas along the City of Roswell’ s trail system, dog waste shall be removed from the trail and disposed of such that it is sufficiently away from areas traversed by the public and will not be stepped in, smell, or attract bugs in such a way as to disturb those using the trail. This section shall not apply to visually impaired persons who have the charge, control or use of a guide dog.

Wow!  Not cleaning up after your pet comes up against a serious violation!

Please, save the shoes and lawns of T.O: Cleanup after your pet.

Section 8.1.9 Running at Large Prohibited. It shall be unlawful for the owner of any animal, or any person having an animal in his custody, to allow it to run at large unattended on or about the streets and highways of the city, or on the property of another person without permission of the owner of that property or of the person in possession of that property. Such restriction shall not apply to cats.

Occupancy Restrictions Passed by City Council: 07/10/06

The Roswell City Council passed an zoning ordinance barring more then three unrelated people from living in the same residence.

The prohibition would apply only to single-family neighborhoods.

According to the text amendment, the change is necessary because "excessive numbers of unrelated people dwelling together in single-family housing creates noise, traffic, and gatherings that often conflict with family life."

Street Parking

We have had some recent questions about Roswell Code of Ordinances, particularly about street parking. For your convenience we have copied the applicable ordinances below.

Section 22.4.1 Abandoned Motor Vehicle. It shall be unlawful for any person to park or abandon a motor vehicle upon the streets of the city or upon the rights-of-way of the streets and allow said motor vehicle to remain parked or abandoned for more than ten (10) continuous hours.

Section 22.3.3 Removal of Vehicles Parked in Violation of this Article. If any person violates this article, any sworn police or code enforcement official upon determination that the violation impedes traffic or the safety of others, may have the vehicle involved removed by a private contractor, and the owner of the vehicle shall pay the towing fee and storage fees connected therewith.

2008: Shorter Grass, Other Code Changes Passed.

Roswell council members passed an amended code enforcement after concerns about some of the provisions delayed a final vote for two weeks.

The new code reduces the maximum acceptable height of weeds and grass from 18 inches to 10 inches.

Other provisions slash the time allowed for code compliance from 10 days to 72 hours, authorize code enforcement tickets to ticket and tow abandoned vehicles and permits clotheslines as accessory structures to residences as long as they are in the rear of the property and not visible form the front street.
